Otoplasty (Ear Pinning)
Otoplasty describes surgical techniques to improve protruding or prominent ears (“Dumbo ears”). Depending on the characteristics of the ear, correction may involve suturing techniques to improve the position of the ear cartilage, scoring or minute incisions in the cartilage, and occasionally, may involve removal of some cartilage and skin behind the ear. While this procedure may be performed in school age children, it may also be performed in adults.
Protruding ears can cause a great deal of poor self-esteem and it is extremely rewarding, especially in children, to see happiness and improved self-image upon removal of the bandages after surgery. Like other facial plastic procedures, this surgery is customized for your ear.
